Courtesy of Peter Cook: We arrive in Cyprus River, 50 km from Wawanesa and are greeted by the volunteers who have put out pylons so we don’t miss the turn off the rest stop and set up a food and drink table to fuel us for the next leg
Courtesy of Peter Cook: We travel 50 more km to St Claude where we are fed lunch at the local Sears dealer and then visit the kids at the St Claude School Complex and challenge them to a game of soccer
The team crosses into Ontario, and Jason hails his bike up in triumph and Happy Birthday to one of our own DAVE HEASLIP
The starts with Damian waking us up at 6:00 AM
In a minute we will start tumbling out of the Ritz Wawanesa
Sharlene Bolt slowly comes to life to start her day of taking care of the riders
Tonight, the Ritz Wawanesa, tomorrow night it will be the Ritz Fort Francis
Looks like we got ourselves a convoy, it takes all these vehicles to support the riders and they are all driven and staffed by volunteers
Into the local Lions Club for breakffast and to share the one bathroom
The RV’s park alongside waiting for us to finish so they can clean up and then race to our next location where again we will fed and watered
Meanwhile, knowing everything else is being looked after by the volunteers, the riders can focus on fueling up for the ride
Damian Brown, the crew chief makes it all happen. A three time veteran, he has everyone’s respect.
When the one toilette at the Lions Club ahem, malfunctions. We find another one at a neraby coffee shop
Those dishes don’t clean themselves, volunteer Lee Andrews cleans up after breakfast
Every day the ride day starts with a dedication to a child who is fighting cancer
Don Martin of the Wawanesa Lions Club joins us for the morning dedication. Don lost two friends to cancer just recently
Damian and Sharlene watching in the background as usual making sure everyone goes smoothly
The golden prarie fields of Manitoba roll by at 35 KPH
Even as they ride, the volunteers in the RV hover nearby looking after the riders

Emergency flats are a given – no problem with our master mechanic Darrin Cecco on the job
We arrive in Cyprus River, 50 km from Wawanesa and are greeted by the volunteers who have put out pylons so we don’t miss the turn off the rest stop and set up a food and drink table to fuel us for the next leg
First rest stop Cyprus River and there is Roger Gallant and the other volunteers with everything ready for us
Nancy Cotton looks after us at the rest stop and looks great doing it
Sharlene Bolt and Nancy Cotton, super volunteers.
Ryan Lyons thanks Lee Andrews for taking care of us

Darrin Cecco fixes a broken bike at the first rest stop
Linda Hughes flashes the SNKCR moose in front of the Cyprus River grain elevator
Sometimes the volunteers get to go for a ride, have a great ride Damian and Fil
Eric Edwards is another SNKCR veteran who knows how to look after the riders
Fil Carnevale and Damian Brown are both volunteers who are very good riders. Today they get to for a spin.

A Day in the life of a Cyclist: Moose Jaw – Morning
Morning breaks and the riders pour out of the trailer and in to breakfast at the Moose Jaw Sears Store
Before the ride the bikes have to be unloaded off the truck, checked over and given to the mechanics if they need any work
Sears fantastic Moose Jaw staff
Each morning we get to meet Sears phenomenal employees who open the store early (5:30 AM) so we can use the washrooms and make sure we get fed before we hit the road
The team riders get their photo taken with the staff at each store so we can look back and remember them and their kindness afterwards
Each stop we take a picture of the SNKCR moose who is travelling across the country with us and will be given to a cancer patient at ride’s end in Halifax
Sears Moose Jaw – you rock!!!
The Ritz Carlton Moose Jaw – we sleep like babies
Goodbye Moosejaw, after dedicating the day’s ride to one of the rider’s father, who is fighting cancer, it is time to get to work and hit the road
Lee Andrews (one of the volunteers) rides with us today and helps to pull
The amazing volunteers Linda Hughes (medical) and Darren Cecco (Mechanic) ride behind the group in a support vehicle to protect the riders and to be there if anyone needs help
Riding two by two helps protect the inside riders from the wind and conserve their energy until its their turn to return the favour
Riding in the peleton also protects the riders behind from headwinds and enables the group as a whole to rider faster than they could as a group of individual riders
Sometimes the best way is the good old fashioned way, a push is always a big help
A Day in the life of a Cyclist: Pense, Saskatchewan
The riders are riding strong today and blow righb through their first rest stop in Belle Plaine and pull up in Pense where they are greeted by a SNKCR Cube Van staffed by volunteers who feed and hydrate the riders
Darren our mechanic is on site so it is also a chance to look over the bikes and make sure they are ready for the next leg to Regina
The purpose of this shot was to record where we are. Actually it’s PJ’s gas bar in Pense, hey Tom, move your head
I don’t want to insinuate that we ever get lost, but let’s just say that the locals who know the roads sure do come in handy
Now that we know where we are going, it’s back on the road. Let’s just say (if you glance at the rider on the left who will remain un-named) that some of the views are not always that scenic
Way to go Regina. We get a police escort into downtown Regina
This is what a police escort does for you, no hugging the side of the road hoping not to get knocked off, we are riding right down the middle of the road
Centre lane, right into downtown Regina – sweet!!!

Day 1 – Launch!
At 8 a.m. Pacific time, at Whiterock Beach, British Columbia, 40 National Riders were serenaded by steel drums as they assembled on the beach. The mayor of Whiterock and Jeff Rushton, founder of Coast to Coast Against Cancer launched us with a short speech and the official wheel dipping. Maria sang the anthem as we left for Langley under a police escort. Scroll to the bottom to see all the photos and video as well as important links to other information.
