I’ve learned that being kind is more important than being right.
After 5 years of SNKCR we have found the most amazing friends. From the Lovely Linda, Dapper Rich, Patient Tim, Remarkable Ron, Foodie Craig, Beaming Bob, our SLH family Bob and (my rock) Terry and of course Reina and my lovable teddy bear – Steve. Where would we be without you? I personally cannot express my love and gratitude to everyone involved and connected to the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride. We’ve all been talking about Steve, the man who has changed the most since year one. Back in Vancouver he described himself as Surly Steve – he couldn’t be more wrong. With Reina by his side, he patiently waits for me, offers the best hugs, comforts and consoles all of us and has a heart of gold. We all love you Steve, but you are my rock and soul on this adventure – love and thanks!
What this trip is not about…
This trip is not about a moment in our lives…it is a journey that we have each chosen to take together.
It not about many things, but all of the things…
It’s not about how Tim is like Santa Clause always full of surprises or how Doug is like the hippy biker grandfather that everyone has always wanted. It not about how cute Jim and Sarah are, or how big Jim’s bike really is. It’s not about Paul’s quiet but caring voice, or the way he climbs hills. It not about Tom falling, or how much time Mark spends on his I-phone with his girlfriend. It’s not about best friends or new friends…
It not about Bob from BC sunglasses tan or the multitude of family he has rooting for him. It’s not about how loud Rich can yell the words 5 minutes. And it also not about how Linda can make you feel better just by looking at you. It’s not about how awesome Trevor is or how talented and amazing of a girl Lesleigh is. And what can I say about the rest of you?
Jeff Durish you are something an inspiration to all of us. Diane we are lucky to have you with us, you fall with grace and determination. Terri you are so much fun. It’s not about how we are hero’s on bikes, or about how we are going to Halifax.
It’s not about how loud Dan is or how his emotions are written all over his face…not to mention resonating in our eardrums. It’s not about Kathy’s new bike or her dislike of the weather report. It is not about how Taylor couldn’t be any sweeter than she already is.
It’s not about Shelley and her ability to blog, or how she is always prepared…
Nor is it about Jessalyn’s magic hands and her awesomeness in general. It’s not about Ron Mitchell’s patience and wisdom and how it lingers when he talks. It’s not about Kristen’s beauty. or Bob n Barbs ability to navigate. It’s not about Ed’s high fives, or about Barclay being from Mars. It’s not about Bob being the greatest husband and rider, or about Nelson’s photography skills. It’s not about Steve Chapman’s sensitivity or about Sami’s awesome lights in his truck. It’s not about Natalie and her I-phone, Denise’s salsa and bean dip or Fil’s awesome smile.
It’s all about kids like Tyler….
