Destination – Beyond Cancer!

In 2005 I finally realized that I would never be a professional (or even good) golfer and traded in my clubs for a mountain bike. I rode it and raced it and at some point decided that if I trained on a road bike that I would become a better mountain biker. Well, I was warned. Mountain biking is like Rock and Roll and road biking is like the Symphony and I fell in love with the Symphony. In 2006 I signed up for my first Tour for Kids because I wanted to try to ride my road bike 200 kms per day x 4 days. After half a day, I was hooked. I had inadvertently discovered the world of giving back and generous, giving people. It was game over.

I have ridden in every Tour for Kids since. In 2008 I took part in the Toronto-Halifax leg of the SNKCR. In 2010 I participated in the Vancouver to Toronto leg. In 2012 I took the plunge and did the whole ride from Vancouver to Halifax.

This year I was searching for a new goal when I realized there was nothing that I wanted to do more than ride across Canada again and help raise money and awareness in support of kids dealing with childhood cancer. Kids dealing with cancer are the innocents. They didn’t do anything wrong. That is just the cards they have been dealt. They deserve our love, support and a helping hand. When they get it, they survive at an amazing rate. And they grow up to be impressive, giving adults. I can’t think of a better investment.

So in 2013, I am doing it again. Just like last year I will be running a blog so you can follow my journey. You can pick it up at petercook2013.snkcr.com

If you would like to support me you can also sponsor me at http://snkcr.com/petercook. You will get an instant tax receipt and 100% of your donation goes towards the kids. Thanks to volunteers and rider registration fees, we run a “0% overhead and 100% goes towards the kids” model. You can feel good knowing that every cent you give goes right to the cause that you want to support.

Here’s to a great cause, a great ride and a great year. Follow us, support us and above all else get excited about something, get involved and make an impact this year. You will never turn back.
