Sears National Kids Cancer Ride

Ride Overview

The Sears National Kids Cancer Ride is one of the biggest and most ambitious charity cycling events on behalf of childhood cancer in the world. Now in it’s 5th year the 2012 event will be an emotional and inspirational adventure beginning in Vancouver on September 5 and complete in Halifax 17 memorable days late on September 21, 2012. Riding in relay style, the selected national riders will each cycle approximately 165 kms per day joined along the way by thousands of other caring cyclists who will cycle shorter, “stage ride” distances in major cities across Canada. At the start and end of each day they will participate in community events and visit many of Canada’s 17 pediatric oncology centres and hospitals where the cancer community will share inspiring stories of strength and hope with cyclists and the media. Together, our cyclists will raise millions of dollars on behalf of charities that improve the quality of life for children, and their families, living with and beyond cancer.

Our destination - beyond cancer!

Funds raised will be directed to both national initiatives in support of childhood oncology programs, as well as, to local and community programs through pediatric oncology hospitals and centres across the country. The event is conducted by the Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation comprised of mainly volunteers in partnership with title sponsor Sears Canada and other generous sponsors who collectively work to keep administration and promotion expenses to a minimal to ensure that 100% of the money raised goes directly to fund research and support programs for kids cancer in each and every one of the pediatric oncology centres across Canada.

Here what participants from previous year’s events had to say:

I am blessed to have been able to “go for a bike ride”. As we rolled into small towns and big cities across this country, we were welcomed, cheered and praised as role models by the public, by families, kids, Sears employees. They were calling us heroes. This praise seemed a bit displaced to me and almost made me feel uncomfortable. The kids that we did this ride for live a harsh reality and they are the real heroes. They and their families are the courageous ones.

I've been asked many time if I would do this again, and my response will not change, "In a heartbeat". Coast the Coast Against Cancer Foundation and their corporate sponsors (ie. Sears, New York Fries, Marsh Canada, etc) are helping children, like my daughter Megan, who are living with and those beyond cancer. We will ride until they can ALL ride with us.

I just finished up the most awesome journey that I must say has been life changing for me! I volunteered for the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride where 50 cyclist's rode from Vancouver to Halifax in 19 days to raise money and awareness for kids who are afflicted with childhood cancer. Without a word of exaggeration, this is without a doubt the best thing I've ever done or been involved with in my life. I lost a nephew a very long time ago to leukemia (he would've been 23 in October) and this was a way for me to give back and honour his memory.
