Celebrating life and giving back
Having been lucky enough to be employed in a profession that I love requires a healthy life style, which has included, recreational running and swimming, cycling and putting them all together in Triathlons. During my employment I have had the opportunity to work with the many professionals at the Sick Kids Hospital and I could not think of a better way to give back to the community and to a more deserving group of children.
So why the cause of childhood cancer? I have lost family members to cancer and I am employed in a profession that 1in 9 will be touched by cancer. What makes this journey surreal is the fact that each day in Canada parents are hearing the words “your child has cancer” and I can’t imagine hearing those four words in conjunction with one of my own children. I’m blessed to be the father of three healthy and active children, two beautiful daughters (4 and 5) and one very energetic son. (2) I’m cycling for them, so they don’t have to ever hear those words - “you have cancer” - and then miss out on their childhood. I’m excited about doing this Ride, knowing that I will be cycling for the thousands of children who are diagnosed and living with cancer in Canada. I’m encouraged by the fact that I will be making a meaningful difference in the fight against childhood cancer - with every dollar we raise I know that we will be making a difference in the lives of children and their families across Canada.- helping these brave children live with and beyond cancer, and enjoy just being kids.
