Going Coast to Coast and Proud to be a Volunteer Supporting our National Riders
Once again I am so proud, and excited to be part of the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride. It is indeed an honour to be chosen to support the incredible group of riders and volunteers. I feel privileged to be able to extend greetings and encourage the courageous kids and families who are battling cancer.
I am married to my best friend Kathryn for almost 40 years. We have four fantastic kids and two terrific grandchildren. All of whom I am so very proud.
Over the years I have been involved in many charitable organizations. Lately, my focus has been with the Schizophrenia Society, Canadian Mental Health Association and the Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation.
Our family has been affected by cancer, as almost everyone else has. My Grandfather, Dad and just last year my Dad-in-Law, lost their battles. We have been so blessed that we haven’t experienced childhood cancer in our immediate family.
Our son Ross became involved in the Ride for Kids several years ago. We were all so proud. Our family all turned out to cheer him and the other riders on, rain or shine. I couldn’t believe my ears when he shared his dream come true of riding across Canada in 2008, I thought then, “what an incredible achievement.” Little did I realize that I too was about to embark on a life changing journey. I was invited to volunteer for “The Ride.” On that ride I experienced for the first time, up close and personal how Kids with Cancer and their families share how they deal with this terrible illness. I know that it was just a glimpse, but it was enough to know that I need to support the Coast to Coast Foundation in any way I can, to help fulfill that there is indeed a Destination beyond Cancer.
I look forward to working with our riders and fellow volunteers with a big smile and big heart – please take a moment to support this incredible effort and consider a donation. Let’s make a difference today and everyday!
