Because I can, I will give back
I have always been very active, in high school I was on the track, cross country & football teams, after college & getting married I played men’s ice hockey, baseball & tennis, at 35 I started to run & cycle in which I started to compete in triathlons & duathlons, then in 2003 I ran the ING New York city marathon followed by the Boston marathon, I was hooked and have ran 16 marathons in the last 5 years. In June of 2008 I participated in the Princess Margaret cure for cancer ride and was able to join great Canadian cyclist Steve Bauer that Saturday afternoon for an extra ride.
One of my inspirations for getting involved with this ride came from my own family, my mothers youngest brother was diagnosed at 17 years old with acute leukemia and past away a couple of days before I was born, my mother named me after the uncle that I never got to know.
I have been blessed with 2 beautiful daughters, who are the centre of my universe, seeing them live a healthy active life is what any parent would wish for. I find myself and my family very fortunate for our good health and I am here now to try and help out others in this terrible disease we call cancer.
“May this inspire you to realize that there is no such word as can’t” (Walter Gretzky)
