This city has raised (so far) $10,000!!!!!
There were many fundraisers from bake sales, to 50/50 draws.
Ride along with nine community riders.
Spoke to Lucas Dureau (9) and his grandma Kathleen fischl, who is a team leader at Sears. Lucas wanted to come out last year, however his grandma Kathleen was sick and fighting colon cancer. She is now good to go!
Back Row Scholars entertained us with their music.
Mayor Pat gave us a really nice speech.
RVP Sears Heather, also spoke
Dr. Hawk, paeditric oncology, his goal is working towards 'curative intent'
One stat he gave us 1/1000 adult people are survivors of childhood cancer.
Ambassador families
Elaine and her son Colin (6)
Colin diagnosed with leukemia when he was 2 1/2; he's now in remission
Shelley and her daughter Hannah (9)
Hannah was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic lymphoma
Hannah is now cancer free
We all appreciate the effort that these community groups go to, to put on these events.
They lift the spirits of the riders and crew, give us motivation to continue in this journey. We appreciate the patience of all the organizers when we are late. Their involvement is very important to us, not only for the donations, for the way they bring everything into perspective.
A huge thank you to Husky manager Dianna Hollderson for allowing Kelly, Darrin and myself to shower there. It was so much appreciated!
Arrived in Swift Current at the 'Coffee Time' restaurant, in the frieght liner yard, next to the Volvo dealer.
We immediately got into the bunk truck and slept for about 3 hours. Val Raynard greeted us in the morning with warm showers and a hot breakfast of oatmeal and other goodies. Val's lovely assistants are Sherry Unger, Shirley Dyke, Jody Stringer. Thank you ladies, you've no idea how much we appreciate your hospitality!
Dedication was for Scotty, our nurse Kelly's nephew. He was seven when diagnosed with neuroblastoma, he wanted so badly to make it to his 13th birthday, he passed away shortly before.
We had two riders join us from Moose Jaw to Regina, Curtis Tutthill, Glen Berger, they ride for 'Sight Seerers' an optical company from Cornwall. They live in Regina. Curtis was looking for a cancer ride, he was on the Sears website and found us!
Scott Benson (fiddler) and Jered Dormer entertained us with their music... amazing!
The four ladies looking after face painting, were Aleesha, Tianna, Tracy, Nicole, all from Hair Academy in Moose Jaw
Terry and Carl have now completed 3 days of their cross Canada bike ride and are now in Regina! Sounds like they've had quite an adventure already with massive mountains to climb, severe heat and winds, very minimal sleep (2 hours the first night), and Terry has been battling some gastrointestinal upset - not a good situation when you're riding a bike for 10 hours a day!
But the guys remain committed to this challenge as they think about all the children battling cancer and that keeps them going.
Great news on the fundraising front today - Team Terry and Carl have topped their goal and are at $50 533 and counting!!! What an awesome feeling to set a seemingly unattainable goal and then surpass it! The guys cheered when they got the news. Again, thank you for all your tremendous generosity and support of these remarkable guys!!
