Mayor Howard Wheat came and spoke to us with a Dedication to Gary, 18 who passed away on Tuesday June 16
Two donations were given to us, in memory of Gary. Funeral Friday, C2C will attend.
Beth Stutman made a comment this morning after the dedication, someone mentioned we are going to Montreal River, and she said 'she wasn't ready to go home'! I made a comment to the group, that just a few days ago in Vancouver, Beth was looking for a way to get home, now she doesn't want to go home :)
Kelly took a photo of Juan and I, in the back seat of the 'techno van' working very hard on our content.
Beautiful day again! So sunny and hot. Our fearless mechanic Darrin is getting tons of work today, many minor mechanicals.
On the Road with Lynne Jenkins
We are just on our way from Wawa to Espanola. We took a few minutes to attend the visitation for Gary. We were joined by the entire team 2 riders and crew. It was very gracious and touching that the Creighton family would extend an invitation to us to join what was a very intimate gathering at such a difficult time. We were completely blown away by how we were welcomed with open arms and by the strength of the Creighton family. We were able to spend a few minutes with Gary’s family and extended condolences from everyone associated with the ride and at the foundation. Gary’s mother actually grabbed Jenn and hugged her while thanking her. We were told numerous times how important the few minutes we took to stop by was to not just the family but to the whole community. I lost count of how many times we were thanked for taking the time from our hectic schedule to pay our respects. People insisted on making donations to the ride and thanking us for what we are doing. Rob Schumacher from Sears, who was a fantastic host, said it was something the whole town would remember for a long time. I think we’ll remember it a lot longer.
Robb Schumacher, our Sears contact in Wawa, let me know about a young man in the community who passed away yesterday from cancer – Gary Creighton. Gary was 18. I’ve attached the obituary that was written by his family.
We have the permission of the family to dedicate the Wawa stops to Gary. In fact, Mr. Gilmarten, the funeral director who contacted the family on my behalf, said they would be honoured.
I know that many of you are exhausted and feeling the effects of the wind and sun. Please know that you are making an extraordinary difference in the lives of many people. By dedicating the stops tomorrow to Gary, you are doing it yet again. In this horrible sadness, you have made this family feel a bit better.
Ride strong, ride proud.
Thank you,
Susan
